New company provides small, eco-friendly buildings with cork and bamboo flooring A California-based company is attempting to bring a bit of Europe to the golden coast. The North Bay Business Journal reports that the Marin County company YardPods offers tiny, steel-framed buildings that are commonly placed in backyards and provide homeowners with a relaxing garden office or sitting room, a trend which originated overseas.
"In Europe where I come from, the room in the garden for an office or reading is huge and growing fast," YardPod CEO Malcom Davies told the news source. "I think it is going to come here. A lot of people have a yard they want to take advantage of."
The buildings, which are between 64 and 120-square-feet, are built with a number of eco-friendly materials. Cork and bamboo flooring is available for buyers who choose to be especially environmentally conscious.
The World Floor Cover Association reports that cork flooring is harvested with no harm to the tree and has benefits beyond just sustainability. The material is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to mold and mildew.
