Underlayment is a layer of foam, cork, plastic or rubber between the flooring and the subfloor to block moisture, insulate or absorb sound. Cork is one of the best acoustic underlayments. Plastic moisture barrier pads help protect floors from warping, molds and mildew. Many floors already come with this type of underlayment attached. Comfort barrier is a special type of underlayment which incorporates the moisture barrier with a sound barrier.

Duo-Bond System 15-Year Moisture Vapor Warranty:
Qualified SOUND STEP installations fully bonded with E-Grip II adhesive are warranted for 15-years against moisture vapor transmission through the membrane. when installed in accordance with DUO-BOND System installation instructions for full bond method.
Coverage includes installations on concrete sub floors, on, above or below grade. In order to qualify for the warranty, each SOUND STEP installation must be supported by a qualified moisture test conducted in accordance with ASTM F 1869-04 (Calcium Chloride Moisture Testing Procedure).
Documented results must verify that moisture transmissions do not exceed 6 lbs. per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours.
Test results for each installation must be retained and documented by an authorized re-seller of Calcium Chloride test kits and accessible for the life of the warranty. SOUND STEP recycled rubber underlayments are moisture and rot proof however; this and all other warranties exclude moisture damage to flooring systems cause by excess humidity, moisture accumulation or surface flooding from any source. The warranty is offered to the original purchaser of the installed flooring and is not transferable.
