Westhollow® Premier Collection Care and Maintenance

Westhollow® knows what is important to you and we have created a flooring collection designed to last like all the important things in your life should. The natural beauty of wood with a long lasting finish will give you a lifetime to enjoy your new floor. Westhollow® wood floors are very easily cleaned, requiring little more then sweeping or mopping and they will maintain their original appearance for decades to come.
  • Westhollow® floors are extremely hygienic and easy to keep clean.
  • Remember that frequency of maintenance of your floor depends not only on the foot traffic but also on how much care you take.
  • For daily cleaning it is sufficient to vacuum the floor with special hardwood floor attachments, sweep it clean with a soft broom or use a hard surface wipe kit.
  • Never use an upright vacuum with beater bars. They can cause dents in your floor's finish.
  • Footmarks and more stubborn dirt can simply be wiped away with a damp cloth. Please make sure that you always use cloths that have been well wrung out. Never treat the floor with wet rags or use excessive amounts of water.
  • Scouring substances, wax or polish should never be used because they cannot penetrate the special layer of the upper surface and therefore result in it becoming dirty.
  • In areas vulnerable to greater dirt such as the door and entrance hall, it is advisable to put down protective mats. Felt rollers should be affixed to the base of furniture and drip trays should be placed under plant pots. Movable furniture should be fitted with soft rubber rollers.
  • Place glides made of felt or some other fabric under the legs of furniture to prevent scratches. Clean the glides regularly to ensure that dust and grit do not become imbedded.
  • Avoid standing water, wipe spilled liquids immediately and let the floor dry completely.
  • Move your area carpets or throw rugs occasionally to maintain a uniform appearance in the floor's finish.
  • During cold periods with increased heating, the indoor air humidity may become so low that the floor is prone to drying out. This may cause a certain amount of separation so that minor gaps appear in the flooring joints. Such problems can be overcome by the use of a room humidifier. This issues maybe the case also in the summer in very dry areas of the country. Also having too much humidity can cause the floor to grow and cup. Such problems can be avoided by having a de-humidifier. Please maintain a constant humidity in the home that is recommended in the installation instructions.
  • Make sure there are no exposed nails or metal heel supports on shoes that could scratch or dent the floor. Check shoes with soles that have deep treads to ensure that any trapped dirt or gravel won't scratch or dent the floor as these can leave indentations or scratches which is not covered under warranty.
  • Never use wax, oil-based detergents, or other household cleaning agents on your floor, since they may dull or damage the finish and leave a greasy film that makes floors slippery, maintenance more difficult, and refinishing impossible without deep sanding.
What happens if I scratch my floor, what do I do?

Not to worry! Keep a few extra pieces of the flooring in a safe place. Keep it flat and in a dark place away from sunlight and extreme moisture issues. A skilled professional installer can replace the damaged board or boards and make the floor look seamless.
