Westhollow® Cork Care and Maintenance
MAINTENANCE & PREVENTIVE CARE |
|
Cork floorings are not only durable, but they are also extremely easy to maintain. During the manufacturing process, all possible care has been taken to ensure a long life to the cork floor and many years of satisfaction to the user. Our floorings are factory-finished to the highest of standards, so that little time needs to be spent on maintenance. All that is required to maintain a cork floor is a regular vacuuming and light cleaning with a damp sponge mop. Ammonia-based cleaners or chemicals must not be used to clean the floor. For routine care, sweep or vacuum to remove lose dirt before it can scratch or be ground into the floor's surface. Only in case of heavy dirt, or if necessary, add cleaner to water and mop immediately with a mist of clear water. Avoid standing water! Wipe spilled liquids immediately. Let it dry completely. A cork floor should be treated as any quality wood flooring. As durable as cork flooring is, it must be remembered that it is still a natural product. To prevent dirt and scuffing in entrances, use a mat. By using mats in all entrances, any dirt or grit carried on footwear will be removed, saving your Cork floor. However, never use a mat with latex or rubber backing, because these can stain the floor. Remember that frequency of maintenance for your floor depends not only on the foot traffic but also on how much care you take. Please note: at all times, you must avoid excess moisture on the floor. Do not allow water to stand on the joints for long periods of time. Remove spillages immediately. Felt pads should be fitted to furniture legs to avoid marking. A room's relative air humidity is ideally 30-40%. During cold periods with increased heating, the indoor air humidity may become so low that the floor is prone to drying out. This may cause a certain amount of separation so that minor gaps appear in the flooring joints. Such problems can be overcome by the use of a room humidifier. Cork, may change color when exposed to sunlight. Cork tends to fade. Use blinds, curtains or other sun screens. |
