Pergo, the name synonymous with laminate flooring.
Since 1977, Pergo has been at the forefront of laminate development. From the original concept of laminate tabletops to its eventual application as a flooring product, Pergo continues to break new grounds and command the laminate market.
120 Year History
Pergo AB was originally a division of Perstop AB, a Swedish company that started in the business of vinegar manufacturing but grew to become a stalwart in laminate technology. Perstop AB has more than a century's-worth of experience in business, engaging in markets as diverse as the products it sells.
It was 1984 when the first laminate floor was introduced to the world with the release of Pergo laminate flooring in Europe. Its first laminate flooring factory was opened in 1985 at Trelleborg, Sweden. Four years later, the Pergo Original brand was introduced in the market. Encouraged by its initial success, Pergo spent the late 1980's and early 1990's expanding its flooring operations.
Crossing the Atlantic
However, it wasn't until ten years later that Pergo laminate floors would make its way across the sea to the United States, and later on, to Asia and the Pacific. In January of 1994, Pergo entered the US market through 107 stores on the East Coast and Midwest. By summer of that year, it had gone national and was sold in 850 stores across the country. The company's huge success in the North American market led to the establishment of a US headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina and a 130,000-square foot manufacturing facility in Garner, North Carolina.
Public Offering
With sales rocketing, Pergo AB made a public offering at the Stockholm Stock Exchange as an independent company on June 19, 2001. Pergo Inc., the US subsidiary, is sold by 3,500 specialty retailers and this number is growing more each day.
Recent financial reports set Pergo as one of the biggest flooring companies in the world in terms of sales and revenues. It shows strong financial performance, and its investments are all aimed to strengthen the company's position and service its millions of customers. It is also growing to expand its product offering, including a venture into the hardwood flooring category.
Through the years, Pergo has also won numerous awards and recognition including the coveted Platinum ADEX Award for residential flooring Design Excellence from Design Journal Magazine in 2003.
