A: If you have younger children whom will be getting water splashed around fairly often, or leaving wet clothing on the floor, I would suggest avoiding wood flooring. This does not mean that you can not have a floor that has a wood appearance, but for actual wood floors this environment would be one where it is too likely for you to have some moisture damage and eventually the floor would need to be replaced.

Good options here would be stone or tile, linoleum, or vinyl. Luckily there are several excellent vinyl floors which have really great wood looks to them, so you can get a floor which is far better suited to younger children in a bathroom and still get the great look of hardwood floors. Konecto has one of the best wood appearing vinyl floors on the market and it is rather easy to install.

If having the wood look is not necessary, you can look into linoleum or even tile and stone floors. Now if the warmth of the floor is a concern, you can get an electrical radiant heat system built for these floors relatively cheap. Nuheat is a great product for tile, but there are many systems out there that are similar to it that are all suited for tile, linoleum and vinyl.

One option you can look into, although I would not consider it my top choice, would be a glue-down cork floor. This would have to be a solid cork tile, such as those made by APC, and you would want to make sure an on-site finish layer is applied to it in order to get a better moisture seal over the entire floor, especially at the seams. Cork is naturally water resistant, but it is still a wood floor and there is some potential that if water is left standing for too long, or excessive amounts of water are present, damage will occur.
