Middle school uses bamboo flooring to get LEED certification
Middle school uses bamboo flooring to get LEED certification A middle school in Keller, Texas, will be highlighted later this month for the eco-friendly example it is setting for other schools across the United States. The Keller Citizen reports that Timberview Middle School will be featured in a forum on October 21 to show how going green may improve a child's academic performance and also be fiscally responsible.
The school received Silver Certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and includes a number of amenities implemented to conserve energy and tread lightly on the environment. Along with supplying some of the school's energy through solar and wind power, the building also used sustainable bamboo flooring on its stage.
"We've transitioned from something quite environmentally good, with geothermal systems and energy-efficient windows, to an additional step," superintendent James Veitenheimer told the news source. "Not only is it good for the environment and responsible, but it also saves money."
Homeowners who are looking for a way to incorporate some eco-friendly elements into their abode may want to consider installing bamboo flooring. The World Floor Covering Association reports that in addition to being manufactured by a fast growing plant, the material also comes in a variety of styles.
