Expo in North Carolina stress the importance of green homes, cork flooring This weekend, the Southern Energy and Environment Expo will be inhabiting The Western North Carolina Agricultural Center and, according to the Mountain Xpress, a lot has changed since the expo's inaugural event 10 years ago.
The news source reports that back then, the focus was largely on eco-friendly cars, but it has since moved into housing and environmentally conscious homes. Along with the expo, the Environmental and Conservation Organization will be hosting a green home tour featuring solar utilities and sustainable building.
"Green homes are a critical part of the picture," David Weintraub, executive director of the Environmental and Conservation Organization, told the news provider. "Looking in the paper every day at what's happened in the Gulf of Mexico, we can see what havoc cheap oil and dirty fossil fuels have wrought on our air and water."
Homeowners looking to add a environmentally friendly design to their abode can consider installing cork flooring. The Cork Institute of America reports that the material treads lightly on nature because it is harvested from the bark of oak tress and does not damage the structure of the plant.
