Cork flooring becoming a popular choice in home design
Cork flooring becoming a popular choice in home design Those looking to use environmentally friendly materials in interior design have been turning to cork more frequently. While it treads lightly on the environment, the Calgary Herald reports that many homeowners are using the material for flooring because it offers a number of other benefits.
According to the news source, one of the most appealing qualities of cork flooring is the fact that it is extremely durable. Industry insider Richard Hough explained that it is very resilient, as it can resist scratches, dents and can heal itself from any potential damage. Along with being able to withstand wear and tear, Hough added that the material is an excellent insulator.
"Cork is warm in the winter, cool in the summer. People will put it in the kitchen [to muffle the] sound," Hough told the news provider.
The Cork Institute of America reports that cork flooring is eco-friendly because the harvesting process does little damage to the environment. The material is taken from the bark of cork trees, and the bark regenerates 12 or 13 times during its lifespan.
