Eco-friendly home features durable bamboo flooring
Eco-friendly home features durable bamboo flooring When Bruce Schena and Cathy Ricke initially decided to remodel their home in Palo Alto, California, their primary concern was creating more space for them and their two adolescent daughters. However, as the renovation process progressed, the couple began to focus on creating an eco-friendly abode.
According to PaloAltoOnline.com, Schena and Ricke hired architect Ana Williamson and building contractor Drew Maran, who had been using green practices for the past 20 years. Soon, Schena and Ricke were picking out energy-efficient heating and lighting systems, and using sustainable materials, such as bamboo flooring, whenever possible.
Selecting their flooring, however, took a bit of extra research. In order to ensure that their floors were the most durable available, the news provider reports that Schena collected numerous bamboo samples and used load-testing equipment to figure out which were sturdiest.
Bamboo flooring is an excellent option for homeowners who want to utilize an eco-friendly material without sacrificing style or durability. According to the World Floor Covering Association, bamboo can be up to 27 percent harder than other hard surface flooring, and can be finished to match nearly any decorating style.
