Acacia hardwood flooring is generally thought of as one of the most durable and hardest wood species in the world. It comes from a genus of trees and shrubs, with the leaves generally being used to engineer the wood planks. The Southern Acacia wood planks, which are usually made from handscraped engineered hardwood, offer a rich texture with visible grain and knots. The wood comes in a fixed 4 3/4" width and it is sold by the carton. Because it does not absorb as much moisture from the air as traditional wood planks, this type of engineered hardwood is perfect for people who live in an area with high humidity, such as a coastal area. When you use Southern Acacia, you do not have to worry about the planks contracting and expanding like a traditional wood plank, which also makes it practical for a basement hardwood flooring installation.
